UMass Head Women's Soccer Coach Jim Rudy has announced the Minutewomen's 2008 schedule. The schedule includes 18 games including New England rivals Holy Cross, New Hampshire, Maine, and Providence along with five home Atlantic 10 matches featuring powers Charlotte, Saint Louis, and Dayton. The Minutewomen will also help welcome Bryant University to Division I, marking the second sport (along with football) that the two schools will play. The UMass men's and women's soccer teams will cap their spring seasons this Saturday afternoon with exhibition games against the Western Mass Pioneers and the Adirondack Lynx highlighting the Sport Management Department's annual SoccerFest. The men's game will kick off at 1 PM, while the women's game will begin at approximately 3:30 PM. Both games will take part at Rudd Field. The UMass Men's team is coming off the most successful season in the program's history as it advanced to the NCAA Final Four. Women's soccer senior defender Kaelyn Caldwell has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Tuesday. Caldwell had one of her best seasons as a senior, tallying a career-high four points (1g, 2a). She led the UMass defense to becoming one of the top units in the Atlantic 10. Canfield Named A-10 Player of the Week | Final Season Stats
Three University of Massachusetts women's soccer players were recognized on Wednesday, as the Atlantic 10 handed out their postseason awards. In voting by the league's sports information directors, senior Kaelyn Caldwell was named to her third-straight Academic All-Conference team. The league's head coaches voted senior Britt Canfield and junior Vanessa Patry as Honorable Mention All-Conference honorees. She scored two goals in UMass' 2-1 double overtime victory over Richmond on Friday before picking up an assist in a 2-2 tie with George Washington on Sunday. Caldwell Earns Academic Honor
Behind strong efforts from forward Britt Canfield and goalkeeper Lauren Luckey, the UMass women's soccer team defeated Richmond, 2-1, in an overtime thriller on Friday afternoon. The Minutewomen fell behind early, but scored two goals, both by Canfield, to take home the win. Luckey made 13 saves in net, including many sensational stops to force the game to the extra session. The University of Massachusetts women's soccer team (8-6-1, 3-6 Atlantic 10) concludes the regular season at home this weekend with matches vs. Richmond on Friday and George Washington on Sunday. Both games will be part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The Richmond tilt will start at approximately 1:30 p.m., 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 11 a.m. men's game vs. La Salle. Sunday's George Washington game will begin at 11 a.m., prior to the men's game vs. Fordham. Also, Sunday is Senior Day with six Minutewomen being honored prior to the 11 a.m. contest.
