UMass Field Hockey Coach Justine Sowry will be traveling to Argentina to act as the assistant coach for the USA Under-21 field hockey team. The team will play four games between March 12th and 16th in Buenos Aries, Argentina against the Argentina Under-21 team. The tour is in preparation for the Junior World Cup to be held in Boston in August of 2009. The team is lead by head coach Andrew Griffiths of Lafayette and Tracey Fuchs. In addition to Sowry, Alesha Widdall of UMass will also be participating as a member of the USA U-21 team. The first-year coach led the Minutewomen (14-9, 6-1 A-10) to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2001. In Atlantic 10 Conference play, UMass went 6-1 to claim a share of the regular season title and defeated Richmond and Saint Joseph's in the A-10 Tournament to win the conference championship. The Minutewomen, under first-year head coach Justine Sowry, defeated 17th-ranked Princeton, 2-1, on Tuesday in a play-in game to qualify. The 2007 Atlantic 10 Tournament champions will meet fourth-seed overall and Big East champion Connecticut (20-2, 5-1) in the first round. Game-time is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at the George J. Sherman Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn. America East champion Boston University and Big Ten champion Iowa play in the 2 p.m. game.]]>
